Wike Exposes What Obasanjo Told Him About Supporting Atiku: You Are Going To Hellfire
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed what former President Olusegun Obasanjo told him when the former Rivers State Governor sought advice on supporting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Wike spoke in a recent interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
Narrating the encounter, Wike said, “I asked Obasanjo, ‘Can I go and support Atiku?’ and he replied, ‘You are going to hellfire.’”
Wike spoke in the light of discussing political alliances and the considerations influencing politicians when deciding whom to support.
Wike and his former fellow PDP chieftain, Atiku, have been involved in a cat-and-rat relationship following the May 2022 People’s Democratic Party presidential primary, where the former VP defeated the current FCT Minister.
After Atiku picked the then Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his Running Mate, Wike led the “G-5” group of governors (Wike, Seyi Makinde, Samuel Ortom, Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi) to demand the resignation of PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu.
Wike and his loyalists refused to back Atiku in the 2023 general election, effectively helping the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) win key strongholds like Rivers State.
