ADC Faction Suspends Atiku In Adamawa
The crisis in the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has taken a different turn with a faction of the party in his home Adamawa State announcing it had suspended former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Chairman of the ADC faction in the state, Raji Sulaiman Zumo, announced the suspension at a meeting with other excos of his faction of the party on Monday.
The faction also announced it had suspended former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal.
The party is currently in crisis as a faction led by Nafiu Bala Gombe is laying claim to the position of national chairman of the party.
However, rival Adamawa ADC State Chairman, Shehu Yohanna, distanced the party from the suspension claim.
He described the statement as unfounded and questioned Zumo’s standing, stating, “Raji was my deputy, before he disappeared to an unknown place, only for him to resurface on social media on Monday, suspending our father, Atiku Abubakar.”
Reacting to the development, Lawal dismissed the announcement as baseless and accused those involved of acting irrationally.
He said, “If some people take heavy Indian hemp, they can claim to be President of Nigeria, so don’t consider them as normal people. Indian hemp is at duty….
“Raji has no reasonable position in the ADC that empowered him to speak on behalf of the party.
“Raji’s actions demonstrated the power of Indian hemp against our young men. What is his position in the party in Adamawa State, if not influence of drugs?”
