ADC’s Strength Lies In Collective Sacrifice, Not Entitlement, Says Owokoniran
The South West Zonal Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Leader of ADC Frontliners Group, Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, has reaffirmed the need for fairness, inclusiveness, and genuine reconciliation as the party continues to consolidate the gains of the coalition movement.
Speaking with journalists while reacting to recent remarks by former ADC National Chairman, Chief Ralph Nwosu, Owokoniran said the coalition has reinforced the position long held by many stakeholders that no political party can thrive if it is perceived to belong to a privileged few.
A political party derives its strength from the collective sacrifices, commitment, ideas, and contributions of all its members. It cannot be sustained on the philosophy that a handful of individuals are superior simply because they joined before others, he said.
According to him, the coalition has brought into the ADC experienced leaders, grassroots structures, credibility, and fresh political energy that have significantly strengthened the party’s national outlook.
Owokoniran maintained that the objective has never been personal ambition but the building of a united political platform founded on equity, justice, mutual respect, and internal democracy.
He warned that attempts by state chairmen to prioritise personal control over party building only weaken internal cohesion and undermine the confidence of members and coalition partners.
The future of the ADC depends on sincere dialogue, institutional reforms, and a deliberate commitment to building a party where every member is valued based on competence, commitment, and contribution not perceived entitlement.
Calling on all stakeholders to embrace reconciliation, Owokoniran urged members to return to the principles that inspired the coalition and focus on strengthening the party ahead of future electoral contests.
The choice before us is clear, build a stronger, united and inclusive ADC that inspires hope for Nigerians, or remain distracted by personal interests.
For us, unity, fairness, justice, and the supremacy of the party must always come first.
