ADC’s Owokoniran Backs Atiku’s Plan On Restoring Fuel Subsidy To Relieve Nigerians Of Hardship
Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) South West and Convener of The Frontliners Movement, Lagos State, has strongly backed ADC Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar’s call for the restoration of fuel subsidy, describing it as an urgent step toward easing the economic hardship facing millions of Nigerians.
Owokoniran urged Nigerians to reflect on the impact of the Tinubu administration’s subsidy removal, which he said contributed to rising transportation and food costs, declining purchasing power, widespread poverty, hardship and growing frustration.
He submitted: “Nigerians are suffering. Families are struggling to eat, businesses are battling to survive, house rents has significantly increased beyond control and workers’ incomes can no longer meet basic needs.
“The government cannot continue to ignore the human consequences of policies that have made life increasingly difficult. Of what value is a hope renewal policy that only lines the pockets of a privileged few to the detriment of majority of the people languishing in misery and deprivation?
“Moving forward, the government policies in the last three years cannot lead us to an economic recovery that is more sustainable than the current one. We cannot afford the luxury of trying by error.”
According to him, the frustration and economic desperation experienced across the country had also contributed to worsening insecurity and loss of hope, insisting that economic reforms must improve the lives of citizens rather than deepen their suffering.
Owokoniran welcomed Atiku’s proposal as an opportunity to rethink Nigeria’s economic direction, stressing that any subsidy regime must be transparent, accountable and properly managed to prevent corruption and waste.
He said the Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi ticket offered Nigerians an alternative policy conversation focused on economic recovery, poverty reduction, institutional reform and restoring hope.
Owokoniran said: Nigeria must change direction. Our people deserve affordable living, economic dignity and a government that listens to their pain. The time has come for Nigerians to critically examine the choices before them and the future they want for their country.
“The Nigeria we desire is possible with Atiku and Amaechi.”
