Celestial Church Cries Out As Lagos Agency Threatens Demolition Despite Full Permits, N3m Ground Rent

We all calling for the prayers, counsel and technical advice of all Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide members with respect the overreaching power of the officials of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC/KAI) under the leadership of Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd) Corps Marshal/Director, deployed to keep Jakande/ Ilasan clean.
Firstly, I want to appreciate the agency for removing the shanties and keeping the environment clean. However they have been acting out ouside their jurisdiction by issuing a threat to demolish our church CCC ETI-OSA CENTRAL PARISH building which is around the area.
To be cleared, when all the buildings in Jakande was demolished, our church building was preserved because it didn’t fall under the area to be demolished and the land for the church building was properly acquired from the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), now under Hon. Prince Ayodeji Adebayo Joseph, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO).
In fact we recently in July 2024, paid a ground rent of N3 Million for the property. Equally, we have all requisite evidence of ownership from Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), we sought for the clearance for the right to build and were referred to Lagos State Building Investment Company(LSBIC) Which is with them.
On Thursday, KAI officials came led by Rtd Major Cole, saying they want to demolish the property on the authority of Mr. Tokunbo Wahab the Commissioner for the environment and Water Resources, and we told our Church building is not illegal and we have all approvals and the church was not marked for demolition neither was a demolition notice issued to us. Also, the fact remains that the Hon. Commissioner would not have sent anyone to demolish the church.
On Friday, we were verbally threatened again that they are coming for demolition on Monday 23rd of February, 2026.
We also told discussed that their jurisdiction doesn’t cover this as Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) under Florence Omotola Gbaye Acting General Manager/Coordinator Director is the only agency with such power and we have the permit from LASBCA. All fell on deaf ear and they even assaulted one of our shepherds all in the name of being assertive.
They have promised to come back on Monday 23rd of February 2026, but we believe what they are doing is an illegal act because the Commissioner will never encourage such act.
We are stating emphatically that our Church building was never marked for demolition, it is outside demolition area and we have all requisite approval, we did not received any demolition notification from the Agency.
Even if the demolition is to take place (which is not in sight) it should be carried out by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and not the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC/KAI).
We hereby call on the Hon. Commissioner of The Environment and Water Resources Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, Mrs. Florence Omotola Gbaye the Acting General Manager/Coordinating Director of the Lagos State Building Control Agency and Hon. Prince Ayodeji Adebayo Joseph Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) to kindly use their office to intervene, scrutinize and ensure that our Church building having satisfied all necessary Government and building regulations to stop the abuse of power, intimidation, harassment and illegal demolition of the LAGESC/KAI officials.
All necessary documentation and appropriate approvals are with us and some have been presented.
We appeal for the prayers and counsels of all Celestial Church of Christ Shepherds and members to prioritise praying for CCC ETI-OSA CENTRAL PARISH in moments like these.
