‘LASTMA Officers Collect Bribe To Turn Blind Eye’
Residents of Montgomery Road in Yaba area of Lagos Mainland have cried out over tricycle operators who have turned the area into a nightmare with indiscriminately parking on the road.
Traffic enforcement agents in the axis are said to be unwilling to correct the situation as they collect inducements from the Keke Marwa operators and Agbero in order to turn a blind eye to the transporters’ reckless driving and parking.
Their unruly behaviour has turned the usually serene residential environment into a wild beehive of confusion.
It has resulted in several accidents with the unruly Keke Marwa operators knocking down pedestrians and denting cars.
One resident said: “The law enforcement agencies should wake up to their duties. The LASTMA officers who are on ground take bribes from the Keke Operators on a daily basis.”
Montgomery Road has been turned to the tricycles park instead of the space under the newly constructed Yaba bridge appropriately designated for their use as park and terminus.
One eyewitness added: ‘These Keke Marwa people have constituted themselves into a colossal nuisance on that road. Accidents occur there on a regular basis, with pedestrians being run into by the unruly Keke drivers. Many cars using that road have been crashed into and dented by these people.
“People doing legitimate business in the shops around are running into losses as customers tend to boycott them, especially as these vehicles prevent them from gaining entry to do transactions.
“In fact it’s like the area boys collecting toll fees and the tricycle operators are in alliance to turn the well-organised peaceful environment into a jungle.”
Residents appealed for the relevant Lagos State agencies and the local government to restore sanity to the environment.
