Mikel Obi Explodes As Gala Reject Arsenal’s €30m($34.59m) For Osimhen
Galatasaray have thrown out an offer by Arsenal to sign Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen for €30 million in addition to the English club’s striker Viktor Gyökeres moving to Turkey.
Responding to the offer on Sunday, Nigeria’s ex-international and Chelsea great, Mikel Obi, according to an X Twitter post said: “No, this needs to stop! Arsenal reportedly offered €30 million for Victor Osimhen, and Galatasaray rejected it immediately.”
ARSENAL’S OFFER TO GALATASARAY
Nexus Sports revealed that senior Arsenal officials travelled to Istanbul in an attempt to convince the Turkish champions to part with their prized striker, but that the Turkish giants refused to consider the proposal, which would have seen Gyökeres move to Galatasaray in exchange for Osimhen alongside the additional cash.
Galatasaray consider Osimhen one of the most valuable players in world football and have made clear they will not negotiate unless an offer meets their valuation, reported to be between €130m and €150m.
Since joining permanently, the Nigeria international has scored 59 goals and provided 16 assists in 74 appearances across all competitions, numbers that have helped Galatasaray win back-to-back Turkish Super Lig titles and establish themselves as regular Champions League contenders.
He has also become a fan favourite under coach Okan Buruk.
Osimhen signed a permanent four-year contract in July 2025 running until June 2029, reportedly the biggest financial package ever handed to a player in Turkish football, worth about €21m net per season through salary, loyalty bonuses and image-rights payments.
Galatasaray paid Napoli €75m to complete the transfer, with the Italian club retaining a ten per cent sell-on clause, while a separate agreement prevents Galatasaray from selling Osimhen back to an Italian club before 2027 without facing a heavy financial penalty.
MIKEL OBI SAYS:
Super Eagles former midfield maestro, Mikel Obi said: “Victor is worth more than €90 million I don’t care what anyone says.
“And no, I’m not trying to create controversy or accuse Arsenal of racism. But come on… Osimhen is one of the top five strikers in the world. The statistics are there for everyone to see.
“He has everything Haaland has. I’m saying this as someone who played football: Victor Osimhen is a phenomenal striker.
“He scored 41 goals in 52 games, and across 108 appearances for Napoli, he scored 65 goals. What more are clubs looking for?
“What does Julián Álvarez have that Victor Osimhen doesn’t?
“Sending a €30 million offer for a striker of Osimhen’s quality is disrespectful. To me, it’s an insult …. and I’m happy Galatasaray rejected it immediately because that showed they understand his true value.
“I’m saying this loudly: Black players deserve to be valued and paid fairly, just like every other player.”
