Atiku’s Home State Adamawa’s Ex-Gov Bindow Defects From ADC
Adamawa State’s Ex-Governor Mohammed Umar Jibrilla Bindow has resigned from the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Former Adamawa State Governor, Senator Mohammed Umar Jibrilla Bindow, has sent notice of his defection from Nigeria’s leading opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The party’s Presidential Candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, hails from Adamawa State.
Bindow was Adamawa Governor from 2015 to 2019.
The Senator announced his resignation in a letter dated July 15, 2026, addressed to the Ward Chairman of the ADC in Lokuwa Ward, Mubi North Local Government Area of the state.
In the letter, Bindow said his decision followed “careful reflection and extensive consideration” of his personal convictions, political aspirations and commitment to serving the people.
The letter reads “I write to formally tender my resignation from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, effective from 15th July, 2026.
“This decision follows careful reflection and extensive consideration of my personal convictions, political aspirations, and commitment to the continued service of our people.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity to have associated with the party and to have contributed, in my own way, to its growth and democratic ideals. I hold the leadership and members of the party in high regard and wish them success in their future endeavors.
“As political realities continue to evolve, I believe it is necessary for me to take a new path consistent with my vision and responsibilities to the people I have always sought to serve.
“It is time to move, so I have moved. Please accept my best wishes and assurances of my continued respect.”

Prior to the governorship election in 2015, he was a Nigerian businessman who became the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the April 2011 Senatorial election for the Adamawa North Sistrict and went on to be elected to the Senate.
His candidature was unsuccessfully disputed by the then incumbent Senator Mohammed Mana.
He then became the Governor of Adamawa after defeating Nuhu Ribadu and others in the governorship polls of 2015.
He later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019, but pulled out in 2023.
