President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, will be flown abroad for medical treatment over injuries he sustained from the assault he received in Imo State.
According to the NLC Publicity Secretary, Benson Upah, Ajaero’s grievous injuries defied facilities and personnel at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, the victim’s first port of call, and necessitated his being flown out of the country for further treatment.
The NLC President had landed in Owerri yesterday Wednesday to lead Imo workers on a protest rally in the state over the state government’s maltreatment of workers and a one-year backlog of unpaid salaries.
However, the planned peaceful protest turned violent with allegations that police and thugs beat Ajaero to pulp and assaulted other protesters and labour leaders.
