Osimhen Missing As Super Eagles Practise In Uyo For 2 AFCON Qualifying Matches (SEE FULL LIST)
Victor Osimhen is missing from the training camp in Uyo even as his Super Eagles teammates have already landed in the Akwa Ibom State capital ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches.
In Osimhen’s place, Coach Eric Chelle has invited Taiwo Awoniyi as replacement.
The Eagles’ top goal-scorer hurt his right adductor muscle on September 4, 2026, while playing for his club, Galatasaray in Turkey where he remains for treatment in a healing process that have proved slow.

Chelle is expected to fine-tune his starting lineup ahead of Friday’s clash with Madagascar, with the team’s attacking setup under particular scrutiny following Osimhen’s withdrawal.
Nigeria will host Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, September 25, before travelling to Bissau to face Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, September 29.
The Super Eagles are seeking to secure maximum points from the two matches to strengthen their position in Group D, which also includes Benin Republic and Libya.
