Police Unveil Photo Of Unknown Woman Found Dead In Calabar Hotel, Hunt For Male Partner
Police in Cross River State have released the photograph of an unidentified woman found dead in a hotel in Calabar South, while appealing to members of the public to help establish her identity and trace her relatives.
The woman was found dead at a hotel along Clifford Lane, Calabar South, in an incident the police are investigating as a suspected homicide.
In a statement on Wednesday, the command said the latest development was an update to its September 8, 2026, report on the incident.
The police said preliminary investigation showed that the deceased had lodged at the hotel alongside a male guest whose whereabouts remain unknown.
According to the command, efforts are ongoing to locate the man and establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
“As part of ongoing efforts to establish the identity of the deceased, the Command is releasing her photograph and appeals to anyone who recognises her or may have information concerning her identity, family or associates to contact the Police with credible information,” the statement said.
The command also disclosed that the receptionist who was on duty when the incident occurred remained in police custody, assisting investigators.
The receptionist is being questioned over the admission of the guests and events preceding the discovery of the deceased.
However, the police stressed that his detention did not amount to a determination of guilt.
“His custody should not be construed as a determination of guilt, as any further action will be based on available evidence and in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and objectively.
The police said the investigation was aimed at identifying the deceased, determining the circumstances surrounding her death, locating the male guest and establishing the roles, if any, of other persons connected to the incident.
The command urged anyone who recognises the woman from the released photograph or has information that could assist in locating the male guest to contact the police.
