POS Operator, 28, Sentenced To Death For Kidnapping Man, 83, And Driver, Killing Them After Ransom Paid

An Imo State High Court sitting in the Urualla judicial division has pronounced the death sentence by hanging on a 28-year-old point-of-sale (POS) operator, Isaac Okorie, for his direct involvement in the brutal kidnapping and murder of an 83-year-old man, Chief Alexander Chukwuma Okoli, and his driver, Daniel Sarki.

During the trial, prosecuting counsel established that the convict and his syndicate orchestrated the abduction of the octogenarian and his driver, targeting them for ransom.

Rather than releasing the victims after negotiations or collections, the syndicate murdered both men in cold blood.

Family members and prosecutors testified to the profound trauma inflicted by the incident, compounded by the fact that the victims’ bodies were hidden or disposed of in a manner that left the grieving family without even the closure of recovering the remains.

Presiding over the case, the court found the evidence presented by the prosecution compelling and unshakeable, proving Okorie’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt on counts bordering on conspiracy, kidnapping, and murder.

The Judge ruled that for his active role in cutting short human lives for financial gain, Isaac Okorie should be hanged by the neck.

Speaking after the judgement, representatives of the bereaved family noted that while the court’s verdict offered a measure of comfort, the lingering agony of not finding their patriarch’s body remained a deep scar.

They expressed hope that security agencies would track down and bring the fleeing remaining accomplices to justice.
