Super Eagles Coach Drops Osimhen For Awoniyi. See Why
Head Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Eric Chelle has named a replacement for top striker Victor Osimhen who is in a race against time to be fit for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers in September.
It means Victor Osimhen will miss Nigeria’s opening 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau as his recovery from a muscle strain has taken longer than expected.
Coventry City forward Taiwo Awoniyi is the man picked by the Coach, and a while ago his choice was officially confirmed by the official handles of the team on social media.
The Galatasaray striker was initially included in Eric Chelle’s 24-man squad, with hopes that he would recover in time for the international window.
However, Osimhen was unavailable for Galatasaray’s clash with Trabzonspor.
Galatasaray has informed the Super Eagles that Osimhen is still recovering and will not be available for Nigeria’s upcoming fixtures.
