UNIBEN Blames Cults As Part-Time Student Driving Benz GLK Is Shot Dead At Campus Gate
A young man reportedly a part-time Political Science student at the University of Benin, UNIBEN, has been shot dead while driving near the main entrance of the institution’s Ugbowo campus.
A video circulating online indicated that the incident occurred on Sunday evening.
The victim drove a Mercedes GLK.
Eyewitnesses the yet unidentified victim was hit by several bullets in his vehicle just after he concluded his semester examinations moments before the shooting.
However, the management of the University of Benin distanced members of the institution from the incident, suggesting that the killing might be connected to suspected cult-related activities outside the university environment, which did not involve any of its students or staff.
The university expressed sadness over the incident and appealed to students and staff to remain calm and security conscious while continuing their academic activities peacefully.
UNIBEN management also assured the university community of its commitment to maintaining safety within the campus environment.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants used another vehicle to block a Mercedes-Benz GLK before opening fire repeatedly on the driver.
Videos from the scene showed multiple bullet holes visible on the windshield.
He was reportedly killed on the spot.
