Grandson of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the late Nigerian Statesman, Olusegun, has died at the age of 62.
Olusegun, a lawyer, served two consecutive terms as Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council.
He was the son of, and named after Chief Awolowo’s first son, Segun, who died in a car accident in 1963, aged 24.
His own father, Segun Awolowo Sr, died before he was born.
The Awolowo family announced his passing in a statement issued today Thursday.
describing him as “a phenomenal husband, father, and grandfather — steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the unwavering anchor of our family.”
“He was a devoted servant to Nigeria, dedicating his life to the service of his country with vision, integrity, passion, and steadfast commitment,” the statement.
“He was a true family man, a loyal friend, a devoted servant of God, and a deeply remarkable human being.”
The family further noted that Olusegun Awolowo loved his family, his work, and his country, and lived every day with purpose, humility, and a generous spirit that touched all who knew him.
