COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE INAUGURAL MEETING OF THE SOUTH-WEST ADC ELDERS COMMITTEE HELD IN LAGOS ON 1 JULY 2026
The South-West Elders Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held its inaugural meeting in Lagos on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, to review the state of the party within the zone and consider measures aimed at strengthening party unity and electoral preparedness ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

After extensive deliberations, the Committee resolved as follows:
- The Committee reaffirmed its total commitment to the unity, stability and growth of the ADC in the South-West and across Nigeria.
- The Committee noted with concern the existence of parallel structures, competing claims to party offices and disputes arising from congresses and primary elections in several South-West states.
- The Committee resolved that all disputes and grievances within the South-West should, as far as practicable, be resolved within the zone and communicated to the National Leadership for further action.
- The Committee emphasised that all issues relating to party structures must be resolved strictly in accordance with the provisions of the party constitution and established procedures.
- The Committee expressed concern over the potential electoral implications of unresolved disputes and called for urgent interventions, particularly in Oyo and Ogun States.
- The Committee welcomed the willingness of stakeholders across the zone to embrace reconciliation and accommodate opposing interests in the larger interest of the party.
- The Committee reaffirmed its support for the National Chairman, Distinguished Senator David Mark, and the Presidential Candidate, His Excellency AtikuAbubakar, and pledged to work for the electoral success of the party in 2027.
- The Committee called on all members and stakeholders to avoid actions capable of deepening divisions and instead prioritise dialogue, consultation and party discipline.
- The Committee resolved to hold an emergency reconciliation meeting in Ibadan to address outstanding disputes relating to governorship nominations and parallel structures.
- The Committee reiterated that the South-West remains central to the electoral strategy of the ADC and pledged to mobilise all stakeholders toward building a united and victorious party in 2027.
The Committee expressed appreciation to all members and stakeholders who attended the meeting and reaffirmed its determination to continue providing wise counsel and strategic direction for the advancement of the party.
